About Anju Saran
|
“Artistic ability is a gift but also requires study, imagination and hard work,” says Anju Saran. Born in Lucknow, India, Anju’s paintings have appeared in numerous exhibitions, and brought her recognition and awards. Her cartoons and illustrations have appeared in Indian newspapers and magazines such as Times of India, Indian Express, Lucknow City Magazine, etc. Anju started displaying her artistic abilities at an early age of 5 years. Her initial concentration was on paintings and portraits using oil colors and charcoal. As she refined her artistic talent by completing her Master’s degree in Fine Arts, Anju adopted the use of acrylic and pastel colors as well and became equally proficient in all these mediums. Even though she specializes in portraits and figure paintings, her versatility helps her in working with landscapes, floral, and still life, etc.
Anju is heavily involved with Vocal and Instrumental music since her childhood as well. In her terms, music and art are the two forms to communicate the same feeling by stimulating scenes that affect deep thoughts. Anju is an artist of high sensitivity, versatility and natural & effortless range. She started her musical endeavor with Vocal Hindustani Classical at the age of 6. The classical training proved to be a platform for her forays into musical territories of Ghazals, Bhajans, Geet, Khayal, Thumri, Vandana, Bhaav Sangeet, Fusion, Folk songs, Light Melodies and Film Songs.
After moving to the United States in 1995, Anju continued her quest for learning. She received advanced training in Graphics Design and Animation from School of Visual Arts (SVA) and Multi-Media from New York University (NYU).
Since then, Anju has been working as an Artist, a Musician, and a Graphic Artist. She has been actively involved in promoting Hindustani Music and culture in the United States. In addition to the private and group sessions, Anju teaches Light and Classical Music to children at the Sri Sanatan Mandir Sunday School, Parsippany.
